5 Tips for better Email Marketing
Can we take a bow for the tried and tested marketing channel - the humble Email!
Many people look surprised when I ask them about their email marketing approach and often I hear "Isn't email marketing dead?"
I'm here to confirm that email marketing is not dead! Infact, Email Marketing is the single best way to market your brand or business, increase your revenue, and cash in on more conversions, and with an ROI of $36 for every $1 spent, it is a marketing tool that's hard to beat.
Growing your email list should be your #1 priority from day 1. It is then up to you to ensure that you communicate regularly with content that is of value to your list.
Here's 5 Tips for better Email Marketing:
1. Personalise your emails
Addressing your subscribers by name and segmenting your email list based on their interests and behaviour can make your emails more relevant and engaging.
Bonus tip: put your subscribers name in the subject to drive better open rates
2. Create compelling subject lines
Your subject line is the first thing that subscribers see, so make sure it grabs their attention and entices them to open the email. Avoid using generic or spammy subject lines. Think about what would intrigue you to stop and open the email.
Bonus tip: Use a tool like ChatGPT to give you some email subject line ideas
3. Use a clear and concise message
Keep your email message short and to the point. Ask yourself "why would my audience want to know this and how can I present it in the most logical and easiest way to consumer?". Think about also using bullet points or numbered lists to make your content more scannable and easier to read.
Bonus tip: See this Instagram Post for an example.
4. Include a clear call-to-action (CTA)
Your CTA should be prominent and easy to spot. Use action-oriented language to encourage subscribers to take the desired action, such as "Shop now" or "Learn More".
Bonus tip: I used to feel a little too salesy adding a CTA but an ex Boss once said to me, "why are you hesitant. You're giving the audience a great offer or information and then you just leave them hanging. Help them by telling them what to do next!" A change in my perception from being perceived as pushy to instead helping my audience by adding a CTA has made all the difference. Try it for yourself and see if it drives more engagement, clicks, sales.
5. Optimise for mobile devices
Many people read emails on their mobile devices, so make sure your emails are optimised for smaller screens. Use a responsive design that adapts to different screen sizes, and keep your email width to 600 pixels or less.
Bonus tip: Some email marketing platforms also offer Send Time Optimisation which is the ability to send emails at the most optimal send time to each recipient. In other words, the same email is sent to different recipients at different times based on when they are most likely to engage meaning it's likely to increase your open rate.
And remember to review the performance of your email campaigns to garner insights on what your audience is likes the most out of what you are sending whether it's information, a product or service.
